Frequently asked questions

Are there any fees for sending money to France?

Lumon does not charge any transfer fees. However, please note that the recipient’s bank in France may apply a fee for receiving the funds, although this is rare.

How long does it take to send money to France?

Lumon typically processes payments to France via SEPA (Single Euro Payments Area) credit transfer, a fast and secure method.

Transfers generally arrive the next day if made before 14:45 GMT. For same-day payments, SWIFT is used, though receiving banks may apply charges.

What details do I need to send money to France?

  1. Beneficiary’s name
  2. Beneficiary’s bank name
  3. Beneficiary bank’s SWIFT code: also known as a BIC number, this is used to identify their bank, similar to a sort code in the UK. It is made up of a combination of letters and numbers but always has the country code identified in the 5th and 6th digits, which for France is FR.
  4. Beneficiary’s International Bank Account Number (IBAN): this must start with the country code (FR) and will comprise 34 alphanumeric characters in total. Our IBAN validator will also auto populate the SWIFT code, bank name and bank address.
  5. The reason for transfer

Where can I find the necessary bank details?

If you’re transferring money to your own account in France, your RIB (bank identity document) or most bank statements will include the necessary details, such as your account number and IBAN.

For property purchases, your solicitor will provide the required bank details. Be sure to verify this information with them before making the payment.

This chart is intended to represent the range of euro outcomes a consumer may achieve on a £50,000 transfer of pounds to euros, inclusive of fees and charges. Comparison data for the high-street banks is from FXC Intelligence (FXC Intelligence | Payments Market Data for Global Payments).

Comparison data for the high-street banks utilises pricing data provided under licence from FXC Intelligence (FXC Intelligence | Payments Market Data for Global Payments), a specialist benchmarking tool, for transactions in September 2024. The Lumon rate is calculated by taking the GBPEUR spot rate from 1 September 2024 from the Bank of England (bankofengland.co.uk) and then applying the median FX cost percentage across 103 spot GBP to EUR transactions with a value in the range of £25,000-£50,000 performed by Lumon Pay Limited and associated Group Companies (Lumon Risk Management Limited, Lumon FX Europe Limited) for personal customers during September 2024.
