As we head into the festive period, this week brings one of the busiest calendars of the year for economic data, with several releases likely to influence currency markets.

Latest market insights:

Tuesday: The week begins with UK labour market data, including Average Earnings and the Unemployment Rate. Unemployment has been edging higher in recent months, with expectations of 5.1%, up from last month’s 5%. Later in the afternoon, attention turns to the US with the release of Non-Farm Payrolls and Retail Sales. Both indicators are closely watched and could drive volatility across global currency markets during Tuesday afternoon trading.
Wednesday: UK inflation data is released in the morning, with forecasts pointing to a reading of 3.4%. A few hours later, Eurozone inflation figures for November are due, expected at 2.4%. Thursday: Arguably the most important day of the week, the Bank of England meets to announce its latest interest rate decision.
