What is an electronic money account?

The account you hold with us is an electronic money account rather than a bank account. When you transfer money to our bank account, we credit your account with electronic money (also known as e-money). You can then use this electronic money to perform currency conversions or make payments.

How do I open a personal account online?

Opening a personal account with Lumon online takes just 3 easy steps. Head to our Create an Account page where you’ll be asked to enter your contact details, your personal details, and finally your currency requirements.

How do I open a personal account over the phone?

If you’d prefer to open an account over the phone, give us a call on +44 (0)20 4506 5672. A member of our team will collect your details, including your name, address and date of birth, to validate your identity. If we’re not able to verify your ID over the phone, you’ll be asked to verify your identity using Veriff.

Can I have a joint account?

Yes, you can have a joint account with us. If you’d like to set up a joint account contact us on +44 (0)20 4506 5672 and we will be able to arrange this over the phone for you. If you already have a sole account and want to convert it to a joint account, speak to your Account Manager who will be more than happy to help.

Why do I have to provide my identity documents?

As a financial institution, we need to know who’s using our service. It’s no different from opening a bank account when you’re usually asked to show some form of ID. This helps us combat money laundering, and keep everyone’s money safe.

I’ve been asked to verify my identity via Veriff, how do I do this?

Getting verified through Veriff is easy. Simply follow the steps below:

  1. Scan the QR code with your camera app on your phone or request a link to be sent to you via SMS by entering your phone number. Veriff will then open in your web browser. You’ll be taken through the verification process, so be sure to have a valid government-issued photo identity document ready, such as a driver’s license or passport.
  2. Click Start Session.
  3. Veriff will request to access your microphone and camera, click Allow.
  4. Veriff will then ask you to take pictures of your ID. Simply follow the steps on screen. Be sure you’re in a space with good lighting, and that your photos are clear and easy to read.
  5. Finally, you’ll need to take a selfie. Ensure your face fits inside the frame and is clearly visible.

Once you’ve completed these steps, you’ll see a message from Veriff informing you if your ID check has been successful or not. If Veriff isn’t able to validate your identity, our team will need to carry out additional checks, and someone will be in touch within one business day.
